Tips for Hosting a Competition
1. Have a plan and discuss well in advance with hosting team and parents.
2. Assign responsibilities:
• Hospitality room can be run entirely by the parent group
• Admission table can be run by the parents
• Students can also help by chaperoning incoming teams to their designated areas
• Helpers will be needed for the practice area to time practices
3. Have maps of the route that the team will take on day of competition.
4. Have signs made and posted on the walls guiding teams through the area.
5. If teams will be practicing in the performance area, keep area clear from spectators until practice times are complete.
6. Cover door windows to keep privacy for the practicing teams.
7. Have judges up off the floor in an area roped off so that spectators can not overlook.
8. Set up judges table with plenty of pencils, score sheets, a calculator for score tally, a copy of the rules for each judge to have, candy (mints, gum, etc.), and water.
9. Have a hospitality area for the judges: a private room where judges can meet. Include snacks and water.
10. Invite area studios to perform at intermission (crowd loves it + more revenue for you!).
11. Advertise, advertise, advertise! Everyone loves dance competitions!
